Michael Dean Julian, CPI, PPS
President / CEO

Michael trained under his father and founder of National Business Investigations, Ron Julian, becoming involved in the family business at a young age, assisting his father in many forms of investigations. He majored in Administration of Justice in college where he was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa International Scholastic Order for academic achievement.

Michael began working full time for NBI in 1990, specializing in surveillance operations. He continued his education by completing the reserve law enforcement academy presented by the California Department of Justice, and studying advanced surveillance techniques offered by the National Association of Investigative Specialists.

Michael joined the California Association of Licensed Investigators ( CALI ) in 1995 and regularly teaches continuing education courses offered by the association. He is a former District Governor of CALI , has served on the Legislation and Technology Committees, Education & Training Task Force, and served on Board of Directors and held the position of Vice President of Administrative Services for three consecutive terms.

Besides CALI, Michael is currently a member of the National Council of Investigation and Security Services, the World Association of Detectives and the Southern California Fraud Investigators Association. Michael is one of less than 150 Certified Professional Investigators (CPI) in California .

To meet the recent increase in demand for executive level and facility security services, MINDERS Protective Services was established as a division of NBI in 2003. MINDERS has provided executive level protection to celebrities such as Martin Sheen, John Spencer, William Shatner, Sean Astin, Francis Fisher, Patrick Stewart, Stephanie Powers, Louis Gossett Jr., Lou Rawls, Isaac Hayes and Natasha Henstridge.


Rick Albee
Cyber Crimes and Computer Forensics Unit Manager

Rick Albee specializes in electronic and forensic computer data discovery and media examination for all DOS and Windows™ operating systems. He provides restoration of hidden, deleted, lost or damaged files; data recovery and imaging (including text files, graphical images, e-mail, and URL's), and audit and evaluation of evidence. He implements the discovery of hidden and/or deleted files through byte-by-byte, sector-level examination of hard and removable drives or floppies, and analysis of slack and unallocated disk space.

Albee is a former police lieutenant with 29 years of service, including four years as the Detective Division's Operations Lieutenant, where he supervised all major crime investigations. While on active duty, Albee received The Medal of Honor, the department's highest accolade. As a graduate of the International Association of Computer Investigative Specialist and Police Officer Standards and Training Command College , Albee is certified through multiple disciplines in computer forensics and holds a Degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California .

Albee maintains professional memberships in the Riverside County Bar Association, The International Association of Computer Investigative Specialists, High Technology Crime Consortium; High Technology Crime Investigators Association; the Federal Investigators Exchange of Information Service; Computer Forensic Investigators Digest; The American Society for Industrial Security; Professionals in Human Resources Association; California Association of Licensed Investigators; Forensic Expert Witness Association of California; San Diego Forensic Consultant Associations, and the Association of Certified Fraud Specialists.

Albee has served as Special Master to federal court and as an expert witness in several California jurisdictions. He regularly lectures on computer forensics both domestically and internationally, and has authored numerous articles on the topic of computer forensics and security.


Margaret Gunn
Investigation Case Manager

Becoming a certified Paralegal in 1991, Margaret Gunn went to work for a Nationwide Collateral Recovery Agency where she worked her way up to the Field Case and Skip Trace Manager.

In 1999 Margaret accepted a position in the legal department for an international clothing manufacturing company where she was directly responsible for $1.5 million dollars in unauthorized charge-backs from a nationwide retail store customer. She was then promoted to the Accounts Receivables Manager where she oversaw research and collections on unauthorized chargeback's, invoicing, returns, loss prevention, collections, authorized credit terms to qualified applicants, assisted in quarterly audits and provided daily reports to the CFO.

In 2008, Margaret began work for National Business Investigations, Inc. as the Research Supervisor and was later promoted to Supervising Case Manager. Margaret continues her education by attending workshops on investigative techniques and to stay current on legislation effecting the investigation industry.


Gil Vicent
Surveillance Manager

After many years as a Law Enforcement officer in Southern California, Gil Vicent entered the private sector specializing in surveillance operations and AOE/COE claims as a licensed Private Investigator. He conducted thousands of investigations for National Business Investigations, Inc. before taking the position of Surveillance Manager, where he now oversees surveillance operations throughout the U.S.

Gil continues his investigative education by attending seminars and workshops, and networking with investigators nationwide.  Gil is personally and indirectly responsible for saving NBI clients millions of dollars by obtaining evidence to successfully defend against exaggerated and fraudulent Workers' Compensation and General Liability claims.


Jeff Crawford
AOE/COE Unit Manager

Jeff Crawford's career began in law enforcement before working for the Special Investigations Units at Nationwide Insurance Company and 21st Century Insurance Company, where he specialized in Property, Liability and Bodily Injury claims.

Jeff's focus was then driven into the Workers' Compensation arena in the investigation of AOE/COE claims and the participation and supervising of subrosa investigations when he joined a Nationwide Investigation Firm where he was responsible for overseeing Surveillance Investigators conducting approximately 320 hours of surveillance each week. 

Mr. Crawford joined National Business Investigations, Inc. in 2004 and has obtained evidence of fraud and misrepresentation, and assisted in the successful defense of hundreds of claims since that time.
